In 2014, multi-instrumentalist Marissa Deitz got married to her creative partner in the backyard of her childhood home, surrounded by her family and friends. In 2016, she was sobbing in her underwear, struggling to finish grad school and googling how to file for divorce. Sucker Crush is a project built from the bricks of the songs written during that time. As a collection, they process the end of her marriage in a bleak and candid narrative, framed in meticulous song structures and supported live by Honor Monaco on voice and violin. Sucker Crush’s EP Middle Mattress Chasm refracts the pain of loss into warm textures, delicate artifacts, and moments of self reclamation.
